# Precondition failed

The resource has changed in the meantime; the revision from If-Match is no longer current. Read it again and resend.

**Status 412** · `PRECONDITION_FAILED`

## Typical cause

Someone else changed the record since you read it; your `If-Match` names an old revision.

## Way out

Read again, apply your change to the current state and send it with the new ETag.
